Our History
In 1990, the late great Mayor Donald E. Stephens, invited James W. Mandas the successful Chicago-area restauranteur to open a steakhouse in Rosemont. Today, the Rosewood remains Rosemont's only independent steakhouse serving fantastic food to it's loyal patrons.
Much of the character of the Rosewood can be traced to its owner, James W. Mandas, or Jim as he is known by his friends, opened the Rosewood after successfully operating the Black Ram Restaurant in Des Plaines for 25 years. Raised in a family of restauranteurs, Jim had set off to law school, but ultimately could not resist the call to join his father in the family business. Nearly four decades later, he has never looked back.
It is almost impossible to visit the Rosewood without seeing Jim at the front door. He never forgets a name and has a charismatic greeting for all his guests. His personal commitment to outstanding food and service has created a loyal following not just among locals but customers from across the globe who come through O'Hare. When he is not personally greeting all his guests, he is traveling in the relentless pursuit of new and exciting dishes.
Jim's passion for excellent food and service is executed daily by his committed staff. The Rosewood's consistent quality, innovative menu, and dedication to a great dining experience, has made it the premier, independently-owned steakhouse and restaurant in the greater O’Hare area for almost two decades.
